Appointments

Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.

Wellness Exams

Our physical exams are more than just taking temperatures, listening to hearts and giving vaccines.  Our goal is to thoroughly examine our patients, identify potential concerns and discuss ways to to make the upcoming year healthy for all.  We discuss many preventatives like flea, tick and heartworm as well as counseling on any dietary or behavioral issues.  We look forward to wellness exams because it allows us to educate our clients while learning more about them and their pets with a more relaxed and fun attitude.

A note regarding vaccines:  We receive many questions from our clients about current trends in vaccinations.  And it is true, vaccination protocols are routinely debated in our profession at present.  We are committed to working with you to develop the correct vaccination protocol for your pet based on his/her lifestyle and environment.

Senior Health Care

The veterinarians at Triadelphia Veterinary Clinic are trained ot diagnose a variety of health problems that affect our pets, both young and old.  Thanks to better health care, more and more pets are living longer lives.  As a result, an increased number of older pets, just like people, are coping with multiple disease states that can be difficult to manage.  A healthy appearing pet may be hiding symptoms of disease or ailment.  Therefore, the preventative care of a geriatric pet greatly differs from that of a younger one.

For senior pets it is recommended that exams, bloodwork and/or urinalysis be performed more frequently.  This testing helps us evaluate your pet's health so that we can initiate treatment and take prevetative measures to stop or slow any disease states as quickly as possible.  If any abnormalities are identified, we will take the time to discuss the options, formulate plans and follow through - together.  We are also prepared to care for older pets that may be facing multiple problems and we are committed to your pet's continued health and comfort. 

Pocket Pets/Exotics

We believe specialized pets deserve specialized care.  Their behavior, diet and preventative medicine differ greatly from the typical dogs and cats seen in most households.  Here at TVC we have knowledgeable staff for rabbit, rodent and ferret medicine. 

• Rabbit husbandry and surgery are an area of expertise for Dr. Dina Jones, as she raised rabbits for almost 20 years before attending vet school.  Since becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Jones has performed numerous spays, neuters and abdominal surgeries on these "furry critters".
  
• Few people realize that rabbits and guinea pigs have molar (or cheek) teeth, as well as those uniquely prominent incisors.  Such teeth are commonly problematic and we are equipped to examine, trim and file teeth safely.
• Ferrets need vaccines, yet is common for them to have vaccination reactions.  We carry carry and administer appropriate ferret vaccines to reduce the risk to your pet.  Unfortunately, ferrets are also prone to various types of cancer; TVC can determine treatment protocols that can be supportive in maintaining the quality of life for your pet.

• As for the avian and reptile species, Dr. Jones has worked with a Board Certified Avian Veterinarian and has gained tremendous experience with both the feathered and scaled creatures.  Appointments to see these animals may be taken on a case by case basis.  As with all of our patients, if certain conditions exist where a more specialized veterinarian is needed, referrals can be made promptly and easily.

Diagnostics

During the course of an appointment, it may be suggested that your pet needs bloodwork, urinalysis or x-rays.  These tests can help us establish baselines of your pet's vital organs; changes can indicate areas of concern.  Triadelphia Veterinary Clinic has in-house blood machines, radiology equipment and other tools that allow us to get answers quickly.  In many cases, we can test your pet in just a few minutes and have answers for you during your visit.  From here we can initiate a treatment plan and make adjustments as necessary.

Also, to help ensure safe anesthesia for your pet, we are able to run a combinationof tests that can significantly reduce medical risk and allow us to proceed with confidence.  If the diagnostics are not satisfactory, we can alter the anesthetic protocol, take additional precautions to protect your pet's health or postpone the procedure to further evaluate any abnormalities.

Chemotherapy

Triadelphia Veterinary Clinic is capable in diagnosing and staging of cancer.  Early detection and specialized care are leading to increased survival times in many types of cancers that can affect our pets.  With proper treatment protocols, some cancers have the potential to be another manageable, chronic disease.  If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, it is important not to become overwhelmed.  Although the disease may sound serious, treatment decisions generally do not need to be made immediately.  Let our doctors and staff help you decide the appropriate course of therapy and coordinate a treatment plan for your pet.

Oral Health Care

Periodontal disease affects more than 80% of dogs and cats.  More than just causing bad breath, the bacteria in the mouth can cause inflammation of the gums (gingivitis), loose or abscessed teeth leading to premature tooth loss.  This bacteria also causes pain and chronic infections that can spread to the heart, lungs, liver and elsewhere to create further damage.  The same basics that apply to humans for prevenative oral health care also apply to our pets. There are many choices like daily brushing, rinses, pastes, chewable treats, applied gels or water additives.  On the occassion that your pet is in need of a professional dental cleaning, TVC is staffed and equipped to perform basic prophylaxis as well as tooth extractions.  Health teeth make for a  happy pet!

Surgery

We perform many surgeries at Triadelphia Veterinary Clinic.  For elective procedures such as spays (ovariohysterectomy), neuters (castrations) and declaws (onchyectomy), we require a pre-operative exam and up-to-date vaccines.  During the course of the pre-op exam, the veterinarian will go over the procedure to be performed, plan for the day ahead and post-operative care of your pet.  Before any procedure requiring anesthesia, we run bloodwork to confirm that your pet's organs are functioning properly and to reveal any hidden health concerns that could put your pet at risk.  All patients undergoing anesthesia will have an intravenous catheter placed and are supported with IV fluids during the procedure.

Prior to being anesthetized, all patients receive a sedative including medicine that will calm them, reduce the need for higher volumes of anesthetics, smooth the recovery phase and ease any pain post-operatively.  Throughout the procedure, a certified veterinary technician is monitoring the patient's anesthetic level, body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and oxygen levels in the bloodsteram.  During the recovery and post-operative stage, pain management is a primary concern.  At discharge, a detailed instruction sheet is reviewed, necessary medcines dispensed and questions answered.  Don't be suprised if you receive a phone call 1-2 days following surgery for an update from one of our veterinarians or technicians!

Laser Surgery

Just as in people, laser surgery is becoming a more common surgical technique in veterinary medicine.  There are clear advantages with laser technology: reduced blood loss, less pain, less swelling and shorter recovery times.  A laser can be used for many different procedures such as declaws, neuters and tumor/cyst/wart removals.  Because of such dramatic results with laser declaws, we do not perform them any other way.  These patients leave the hospital with fewer complications and many act as if no surgery had been performed at all.

Pain Management

Surgery can be a major medical procedure and is ofetn associated with pain in both animals and humans.  You can be assured that the staff of TVC will prescribe pain management solutions to help keep your pet as comfortable as possible before, during and after surgery.  If you are concerned about pain management for your pet, a veterianrian will be happy tp discuss all options.

Degenerative joint disease, or osteoarthritis, is another painful condition that affects our pets.  It is one of the most common causes of chronic pain in dogs.  It is estimated that one in five dogs suffer form arthritis.  Since pets do everything to please theior people, they will often hide their pain.  The signs of arthritis can be very subtle and may not be present at all times.  Please talk to us if your pet has reluctance to jump onto the furniture or climb the stairs, is slow to rise after sleeping or playing or simply has a change of behavior.  Although there is no cure for arthritis, early detection and management can greatly reduce discomfort and improve quality of life.  There are many choices for dogs and cats for the control of this degenerative process itself as well as managing the pain that goes with it.

Emergency, Urgent and Critical Care

The veterinarians and staff are equipped and knowledgeable in the area of emergency and critical care during our regular hours of operation.  It is important to keep our phone number and that of the nearest after-hours facility close to your phone with all other important emergency information for your family.  If your pet has an ongoing medical problem that could result in a sudden emergency, make sure you keep pertinent medical records in a handy place so you can quickly locate them and bring them with you.  When possible, it is best to call the facility so they know you are coming and how best to prepare.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Alternative Veterinary Medicine

Referrals

While we can diagnose and treat the majority of health problems, certain conditions might exist which we require the care of a Board Certified Veterinarian.  Between these specialists, all of whom have undergone intense training in their respective fields; and us as your general practioner; we will all do our best to provide the best care possible outcome for your pet.

Euthanasia (Saying Goodbye)

Although no pet owner likes to think about it and veterinarians don't enjoy performing it, euthanasia is a part of veterinary medicine.  In our profession, we can allow our four-legged loved ones to pass peacefully, keeping their dignity intact.  This is a highly emotional and trying time for the families making the decision and having to see it through.  All of us here at TVC do our best to comfort our clients, counsel them on when is the "right time" and then making the experience as peaceful as possible.  We have designated a special room in our hospital where an owner can either sit on a couch or lay on a carpeted floor with their pet privately to say goodbye.  The topic of euthanasia is very delicate and our entire staff promises to handle this matter respectfully, professionally and compassionately.

We provide estimates for all surgeries and hospitalizations. If you have not received an estimate, you are welcome to request one at any time for your expected charges.

Triadelphia Veterinary Clinic offers discounted services to senior citizens and local area rescue groups. Pre-approval is required to qualify for the rescue group discounts, please call us for more information.
